3 Steps to Find Time for Fitness — Even With a Full Schedule

If your to-do list is longer than your arm and your schedule feels like a game of Tetris, I’ve got a simple, powerful tip that can literally give you your time back. Use this strategy consistently for just a week or two, you’ll start to find time for fitness, meal prep, rest, and the other things that actually move you forward.

This is one of my non-negotiable time tools whenever I feel stretched too thin.

🔄 The Problem: Fitness Falls Off the Priority List

If you’re like most people, your day gets hijacked by:

  • Last-minute meetings
  • Errands
  • Kids’ activities
  • Overflowing inboxes
  • And other “urgent” stuff

And somehow, that workout you wanted to do gets pushed until tomorrow… or the next day.

The truth is, if you wait for “free time” to magically appear, you’ll never consistently find time for fitness or healthy habits.

Instead, you need a system that helps you make space, not just hope for it.

✅ The Fix: The Eisenhower Matrix

This tool is deceptively simple, but incredibly powerful.
It helps you shift from being reactive to being intentional with your time — so you can carve out space for the things that actually matter (like your health).

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: List Out Your Tasks

Write down everything on your mind. Big and small. Personal and professional. Just get it all out.

Step 2: Label Each One

Use two filters:

1. Urgent vs. Not Urgent

  • Urgent = needs to happen ASAP (think: deadlines, emergencies, things that demand attention)
  • If a task stresses you out or feels like it can’t wait, it’s probably urgent.

2. Important vs. Not Important

  • Important = contributes to your long-term goals and well-being
  • These are the tasks that help you grow, stay healthy, or support your values — like workouts, meal prep, sleep, or relationship-building.

Step 3: Plug Into the Matrix

Now place each task into one of the 4 quadrants of the Eisenhower Matrix:

Urgency/ImportanceAction
✅ Urgent & ImportantDo it now
❌ Urgent & Not ImportantDelegate or minimize
🌱 Not Urgent & ImportantSchedule it intentionally
🗑 Not Urgent & Not ImportantEliminate or postpone

Your workouts and meal planning will usually fall into “Not Urgent but Important.”
This is where people get stuck.

Because it’s not on fire, it keeps getting bumped. But if you ignore it long enough, it moves to the “urgent” zone — like when your energy drops, you feel burned out, or your health suffers.

Pro Tip: Block Time for What Matters Most

After you sort your list, schedule your “Not Urgent but Important” items first.
Literally block them off on your calendar like meetings.

If you want to:

…you have to treat these actions like they matter. Because they do.

What You’ll Notice Within Days

When you use the Eisenhower Matrix consistently, here’s what happens:

  • Fewer last-minute crises
  • Less mental clutter
  • More control over your day
  • And most importantly — you find time for fitness and other things that actually make you feel better

Like your workouts. Like preparing meals that fuel you. Like breathing room.

What This Looks Like in Real Life

Let’s say your list looks like this:

  • Renew driver’s license (Urgent & Important)
  • Scroll Instagram for “inspiration” (Not Urgent & Not Important)
  • Grocery shop for meal prep (Not Urgent & Important)
  • Answer low-priority emails (Urgent & Not Important)
  • Do 30-minute home workout (Not Urgent & Important)

Guess what gets scheduled first?
💥 Grocery shopping and your workout.

Those are the items that make everything else easier — but only if you protect time for them.

Final Thoughts: You Deserve That Time

Finding time for fitness isn’t just about time management — it’s about priority clarity.
The Eisenhower Matrix helps you take back control from the chaos, so you can show up for your body and mind.

Try it for one week. You’ll be shocked at how much time you’ve been losing to things that don’t move the needle — and how quickly you can get it back.
